Studio 905 at the Lorton Workhouse in Lorton, Virginia is my "home away from home. " There, I have a wonderful light-filled space where I currently focus on whimsical animal portraits. My pet portraits are popular and I accept commissions. There are also fish and flowers series, abstracts, landscapes and some 3D sculptural pieces on display.
I was a founding member of MAX21 in Reston, Virginia and AIM -- the Artists in Motion Gallery -- Studio 1010, also at the Workhouse. I was a long-time member of many local art guilds and a member for five years of The Artist’s Undertaking, a cooperative in Occoquan, Virginia. My paintings have been exhibited in The Art League Alexandria; Reston; Springfield; Fairfax Government Center; Alexandria; McLean; Waterford -- all in Virginia -- Rockville, MD; and through ValeArts in Oakton, Virginia. I painted and sculpted a six-foot fiberglass and mixed-media gecko that sold in the Bradenton Geckofest 2008, a public art fund raiser in Florida.
Art classes were my passion while following my husband Timothy in his 31-year peripatetic career in the United States Marine Corps. Our two children -- a son and daughter -- have provided us four delightful grandchildren, three girls and a boy. Along the way, I earned a BA from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio and a Masters in Art Therapy from Norwich College in Vermont. My background is varied including fiber arts, jewelry and gardening. Altogether, I was well equipped to manage the Goodwin House Alexandria Arts Center for nine years teaching everything from fine arts to the crafts before “retiring” to making art full time. We live in Dumfries, Virginia. Contact me and send me some photos of your pet or totem and talk to me about having your special “spirit friend” memorialized in paint.
